Business Overhead Protection

Will losing your health mean losing your business?

Do you risk losing a lifetime of building your networks, your clients, and your other business assets?

Did you know...?

  • 1 in 3 Canadians will be off work for 3 months or longer due to illness or injury

  • Your personal income replacement program may not be enough to cover your personal expenses and your business expenses

  • Banks and other lenders are unlikely to offer you a loan if you cannot work or run your business

  • Banks and other lenders might even call in your outstanding business loans when they find out about your health challenges

  • Your suppliers might question whether you can continue to pay them when you face a health challenge

  • Your employees might question whether they have a future at your company when you face a health challenge

  • Your clients might question whether they can rely on your company to stay afloat when you face a health challenge

The Business Overhead Protection program provides continuous, monthly funding for your business overhead expenses, to keep your business running until you are able to return to work from an extended illness, injury, or health condition.

This program provides funding for:

  • Commercial office space rent or mortgage payments

  • Furniture and equipment leasing costs or purchase loan payments

  • Employee salaries and benefits, for administrative and support staff

  • Business utility expenses, such as electricity, heat, water, telephone, laundry, and janitorial services

  • Business car lease and auto insurance payments

  • Accounting service fees

  • Professional membership fees

  • Property insurance fees

  • Personal liability insurance fees

  • Business startup or ownership loan payments

Built-In Additional Benefits

  • Business Sale Benefit: If you have been receiving the program funding for at least 3 months, and you decide to sell your business, you will receive additional funding to cover the costs of the transaction. The maximum funding for this benefit is 2 months of funding or $20,000, whichever is less.

Optional Benefits

  • Benefit Length: You can choose to receive funding for your business overhead expenses for 12 months, 18 months, or 24 months.

  • Gradual Return to Work Benefit: If you can only work part-time due to your health condition, you will still receive partial funding for up to 24 months.

  • Health Benefit: If you remain healthy throughout your program enrollment, you can choose to have 50% of your contributions paid back to you, every 8 years.

Maya always wanted her own empire, and nothing would stop her. Instead of climbing the corporate ladder, she would rather start at the top as founder and build her own company from the ground up. Having spent a few years developing her reputation and networks as a freelance designer, Maya decided to take the plunge and open her own graphic design firm at the age of 33.

However, Maya didn’t realize how much everything would cost. The rent for the studio space was over $3,500/month, the equipment leasing payments totalled close to $1,000/month, the leased company car was $800/month, the accountant’s fees were $300/month, the office administrator’s salary was $2,300/month, and miscellaneous expenses such as utilities and property insurance were $1,200/month. It all worked out to just over $9,000/month, and Maya hadn’t even paid herself yet!

Maya knew that her business would not survive if something happened and she was unable to work for several months or even longer. If she closed her doors while she recuperated, she risked losing her two contract graphic designers, her contract production artist, her office administrator, and her network of clients that she spent years building. She might have nothing to come back to when she recovered.

Maya was in an Income Continuation program, which protected her personal $5,000/month income, but that meant she would still be short at least $4,000/month for her overhead expenses. After some research, she decided to add a Business Overhead Protection program, which would provide funding for her $9,000/month overhead expenses if she ever faced a lengthy illness or injury.
